VENTURA PLAYS SCHOLARSHIPS
Providing children from low-income families with an opportunity to participate in City of Ventura camps and classes.
The City of Ventura offers over 1,000 recreation, sports, arts, and enrichment classes and camps each year. Many of our local residents cannot afford to participate in these programs. Even a $30 class fee is beyond their reach. The Ventura Plays scholarship program provides low-income families with the opportunity to enroll their children in city camps and classes that encourage play, skill development, and good old fashioned fun!
Mobile Recreation Center
Bringing facilitated activities to a park near you, the Rec Mobile is supported by local companies and individuals.
Ventura has only one Community Center. Without major funds to build another center, residents can band together to create a "Mobile Recreation Center," a van that goes to local parks multiple times a week with games, sports, and other activities to engage and educate our community's youth.
Increasing the tree canopy in the City of Ventura to benefit the environment and community.
As a coastal community, our urban forest plays a vital role in reducing pollutants that enter the ocean. Trees will sequester the carbon in the air allowing the tools to help us breathe better and combat climate change. In addition, trees can help provide shade to lower the amount of energy used to cool homes and businesses. Trees have also shown to have an impact on well-being, recovery and encourage physical activity by providing shaded sidewalks to walk on hot days. Other co-benefits include reduction in noise, community pride, social cohesion, increased home values, wind reduction and flood mitigation.
A public art project in which local artists transform drab utility boxes into colorful works of art.
Utility boxes can be a disruption to the environment - but when painted by a local artist, they have the power to turn into a delightful surprise. This is a great way to improve your neighborhood and support the local economy.
